HOW TO APPLY FOR EMPLOYMENT WITH MONTGOMERY COUNTY
Thank you for your interest in employment with Montgomery County. This page will provide you with information to assist you in locating the challenge and opportunity you are seeking, and enable the Human Resources Department to process your employment application in accordance with our policies and procedures.

Employment applications are available in the Human Resources Department. You may, also, call and request that an application be mailed to you. Please note: An employment application must be completed; submitting only a resume is not acceptable. You may attach a resume to your completed employment application, if you wish.

HOURS WE ARE OPEN:
The Human Resources Department is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. If you are applying for a position which requires testing for clerical skills, such as computer and typing, tests will not be administered after 3:00 p.m.

WHAT TESTS ARE ADMINISTERED?
Tests are administered to measure clerical skills if required to perform the position. Clerical tests include computer skills, typing and data entry. Certain departments also administer pre-employment tests specific to the specialized needs of their job requirements.

WHAT DEPARTMENTS REQUIRE A PENNSYLVANIA CIVIL SERVICE EXAMINATION AND HOW CAN I GET MORE INFORMATION?

There are three (3) departments which require a Civil Service examination: Children and Youth, Mental Health/Mental Retardation/Drug and Alcohol, and Aging and Adult Services. To learn about the examination and what is required, call the Human Resources Civil Service Analyst at (610) 278-3056, during business hours.

HOW LONG ARE EMPLOYMENT APPLICATIONS RETAINED?

Employment applications are retained by Human Resources for one (1) year from the date of the application. Employment applications are filed by month received. Please remember the month you applied.

VERIFICATION OF EDUCATION OR OTHER CERTIFICATION:

If you are applying for a position which required a college degree or other certification and you are extended a job offer, you must submit a copy of your diploma, college transcript or proof of certification prior to starting employment.

MUST I COMPLETE A NEW APPLICATION FOR EACH POSITION FOR WHICH I APPLY?

You are not required to complete a new application for each position for which you are applying. If you are not selected for the first position for which you applied and would like to be considered for another opportunity, call Human Resources and tell the receptionist the month you completed your application and request it be sent to the department which has the vacancy in which you are interested. If you application is a year old, you will have to complete a new application.

WILL I BE INTERVIEWED FOR THE POSITION(S) FOR WHICH I APPLIED?

Due to the number of candidates interested in employment with the County of Montgomery, the departments are unable to personally interview all candidates that apply. Candidates are interviewed (and hired) based on having the qualifications which most closely match the job requirements and in compliance with the equal employment statement above. It is important that you read the posted job description to see if your experience matches the requirements of the position.

SUMMER INTERNS:
The policies and procedures regarding summer intern positions are normally finalized in February.  At the present time, the only summer intern positions available are at Montgomery County Parkhouse, the county-owned nursing and rehabilitation facility. Contact their Human Resources department at  610-948-8800, for further details.

  • Use a pen. Do not use a pencil.
  • Complete all sections. Do not put, "See Resume"..
  • You may attach a resume to support the information on the application; however, the resume does not replace the employment application.
  • If you need to take the clerical skills tests, allow enough time so that you will be relaxed.
